13 – AFKULE ve TÜRK HAMAMI
Afkule ve Türk Hamamı.
Fethiye limanından çıktığınızda üç mil mesafede ulaşabileceğiniz bölgenin en güzel dalış noktasıdır. Burası yarım bir silindiri andıran 15 metre genişliğinde derinliği 40-60 metrelere ulaşan muhteşem bir kovuktur. Sadece tecrübeli dalıcılara uygundur. Dik duvarların önünde mağaranın su üstünde kalan geniş ağzından dalışa başlanır. Gece veya gündüz fenerinizi doksan derece aşağıya inen duvara tuttuğunuzda pembe renkli yumuşak mercanların içindeki sarı renkli sert mercanların seyrine doyamazsınız. Duvara arkanızı dönüp derin maviliklere baktığınızda ise uçup gidersiniz. Duvarlarda ıskarozlar, kupezler, antiaslar, karagözler ve orfozlar dans edip dururlar. 25-30 metrelere indiğinizde sol köşedeki dar yarıktan içeri girdiğinizde kırmızı renkli mağara karidesleri kaçışmaya başlar. Artık dip zamanınız dolmaktadır, mağarayı solunuza alıp biraz ilerlediğinizde ikinci mağarayı görürsünüz. Mağaranın içinde 10m kadar ilerleyip tekrar geriye dönün ve duvar boyunca sola doğru 80-90m yüzdükten sonra girişi 10-12m den başlayan üstü açık son mağaraya girin. Burası artık dalışın sonudur. Burası da tam bir silindir gibidir, içeride birkaç tur attıktan sonra yüzeye çıkın. Burası ‘’Türk Hamamı’’dır. Maviliklerden çıkıp masmavi göğe bakmak seyrine doyulmaz bir andır. Bundan sonra ister yüzeydeki geçitten ister su altından teknenize dönebilirsiniz. Geçmiş yıllarda Afkule Mağarası’nın içi aslında bir yosun cinsi olan ama mercana benzediğinden dolayı bizlerin tül mercan dediği oluşumlarla kaplıydı. Ancak dikkatsiz ve acemi dalıcılar yüzünden bugünlerde hemen hemen hiç kalmamışlardır.
Türk hamamına girmeyip biraz daha doğu yönünde gittiğinizde 28m derinlikte uzunluğu 6-8m. ye giden çok güzel bir mağara vardır. Ancak farklı bir planlama yaparak buraya da dalabilirsiniz.

Afkule and Turkish Bath:
One of the best 10 dive sites in Turkey, also known by other companies as Aladdin’s Cave. Two caves, the first, Afkule, named after the Monastery above on the hill, is formed like an upturned cone with a side cut away, the top of which is open to the air and your point of reference.
Depending on the swell you can head inside on the surface then descend or start from outside, drop 5 m then enter. Keep the wall on your left at all times. Look back towards the entrance to enjoy the view. The walls here are covered in cup corals, sponges, bryozoans and algae, please keep your distance so as not to damage the flora and fauna. There is a resident brown moray about 7 m in and down, look for a crack in the wall. Depending on your level there are 2 small caverns off the main structure, the first on the left at 30 m is quite narrow, the second on the right at 25 m is a bit wider. Exit the cave at around 15 m to save your air, as it’s a 100 m swim to the Turkish bath cave, look down for the odd large dusky grouper.
As you follow the wall around you will find a few large rocks down below you, pass these and head shallower to the righthand wall. In front of you is the 10 m, 4 m wide doorway to the cave. Look back as you enter to get some good views. The bottom is easily disturbed so good buoyancy is needed to fully appreciate the sunrays piercing the open roof and illuminating the water. Make a safety stop then surface to enjoy the inside of the cave. Anemones can be found in the intertidal zone. Exiting, do not go deeper than 5 m, look for cave sweepers near the entrance, keep the wall on your left until the corner, keep going straight ahead and back to your boat.
