17 – BALABAN ADASI
BALABAN ADASI:
Fethiye Körfezinin doğu tarafında küçük bir adadır. Duvar dalışı için mükemmeldir. Adanın etrafında derinlikler yer yer 250-300 m. lere ulaşır.Dalışa en uygun başlama noktası adanın güneybatı ucudur. Burada derinlik 10-15 m. dir. Bütün dalış boyunca ada sol kolunuza alınarak yapılır. Derinliklerde fazla kalmazsanız tam bir tur yapabilirsiniz.
Adanın batı ve kuzeybatı tarafı oldukça derin olduğundan yüzerliğinize çok dikkat etmelisiniz, derin maviliklere kapılıp gitmek her zaman olasıdır. Duvar boyunca ilerlerken orta sulara bakmayı ihmal etmeyin, sonbaharda kalamar yavruları ada etrafında dans ederler. Palamutlar avlanırken küçük balıklar her yana kaçışırlar. Hele de gümüş yavruları varsa av şöleninin seyrine doyum olmaz. Son yılların davetsiz misafirleri aslan balıkları taşların altını mesken edinmişlerdir. Adanın doğu tarafı sakindir ve burada dalışınızı sonlandırıp çıkışa başlayabilirsiniz.

BALABAN ISLAND:
It is a small island on the east side of Fethiye Bay and is perfect for wall diving. The depth around the island can reach around 250-300 m to the north. The most suitable starting point to dive is the southwestern tip of the island. The depth here is 10-15 m. The whole dive is performed by keeping the island on your left. If you don’t spend much time at depth, you can make a full tour around the island.
Since the western and north-western sides of the island are quite deep, you should be very careful with your buoyancy, A few amphorae can be seen around the western end but be wary it is always possible to sink into the deep blue. Do not forget to look at the middle waters while moving along the wall; in the autumn, baby squid dance around the island. While bonitos hunt, small fish scuttle away. Especially if there are sand smelt, the hunting becomes a visual feast. The lionfish, intruders of the recent years, reside under the stones with nudibranchs and sea cucumbers. The eastern side of the island is calm and you can end your dive here and start to ascend.
